Hi Gary,

I need to confirm if the site you mentioned is a classic site or modern site.

If it is a classic site, please click site settings> Site permissions> Click in the default "<site name> member" permission group and add the user then wait for some time.

If it is a modern site, please click the "members" on the up right of the home page> Add member> Enter the name or email address of the user to add him/her and wait for some time.

If the suggestions don't work for you, please help confirm some information:

1. As you mentioned that you have checked permissions for the user, what are the detailed permissions the user has? You can capture a screenshot and remove the private information.

2. Did you add the user to a default permission group or a created one?

3. Please capture a screenshot of the error message to share with me.

Best Regards,

Gloria

Hello Gary,

This issue will require more investigation for which the O365 support has the required resources and permissions. This might be a bug with the user.
Logs from that user have to be compared with logs of a user, where everything works as expected. For that Tenant Name and email addresses will be required.
Also, if this is a bug with the user, the O365 support team can run some internal tools, which could solve the problem.
So I advice you to open a ticket, by simply logging in as an admin, clicking on admin, support. Describe the issue and you will be contacted asap.

In case of questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Regards,

Manuela

Hi,

It is a classic site

I am using the default Visitors group for access

The permissions the user has are read access given by the"<site name> visitor" group and also now direct read permission to the user.

It still does not give access

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your reply.

I have tested from my side and when I add one user to the default visitor group, the user will be able to view the site without error message.

As you mentioned that you have raised a support call, if you want to get help from there, could you please share the ticket number with us in Private Message so that we can monitor it for you?

Best Regards,

Gloria

Just an update.

The reply to my support ticket has asked me to try deleting the user account using powershell to see if that makes a difference, so I'm going to try that next. I'll post the method and results of that here once I've tested it.

Regards

Gary

Hi,

I moved onto a new project and left this with our web team. The advise was basically to delete the account using powershell, leave it for a while, then recreate it. I did do this, but was unable to test if it had worked as I no longer had the login details of the user who was having issues. I had done this already, but deleted using the GUI rather than powershell, and it didn't make any difference, so I didn't hold much hope that it would make any difference.

I will ask the web team what they did next with this user. I presume they just created a new account using a different email address to dodge the problem as I haven't heard back from them about it since last year.

Regards

Gary
